Guild Community Service

One of the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild's purposes is to educate the community in quilt and fiber art and to give back to our community.  This is accomplished in many ways.

Cuddle Quilts

Each member is asked to make at least one Cuddle Quilt each year.  The cuddle quilts are then distributed to selected charitable organizations in the greater Sacramento area.

Sutter Breast Cancer Quilt Auction

The Breast Cancer Quilt Auction is a community service project to raise funds for Sutter Cancer Center's breast cancer research and patient treatment programs.  The Folsom Quilt Guild members participate in this fund raiser by donating many quilts each year.

Quilts of Honor

The Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild has also contributed many quilts to Quilts of Honor.  Quilts of Honor create and award Quilts of Honor to the men and women of America who have courageously defended our freedoms.  In 2010/2011 our guild held a quilt challenge to create red, white and blue quilts that were all donated to Quilts of Honor.  Quilts of Honor holds sew-ins the first Friday of every month at the Fabric Garden, 2654 Marconi #155, in Sacramento, 916-483-2955. All are welcome to join the group.

Other Contributions

During the holiday season our guild makes cash contributions to several charitable organizations, including the Folsom History Museum, Twin Lakes Food Bank, Power House Ministries, Quilts of Honor, and others.  We also collect food for our local food bank at the November meeting.

Each year guild members have the opportunity to help with one-time projects in the community. We have done such things as:
  • Contribute a quilt from the guild for fund-raising general auctions for a local food bank and for a small local zoo.
  • Contribute quilts personally to a fund-raising quilt auction for breast cancer research.
  • Purchase quilts personally from the fund-raising quilt auction for breast cancer research.
  • Make banners for the mountain lion exhibit at the small local zoo.
  • Make extra cuddle quilts when needed.
  • Display some of our quilts at our local Shriners Hospital for Children.
  • Made many quilts to send to Kosevo.
  • Made and donated quilts to chemotherapy patients.
  • Donate many hours and gifts to the Folsom History Museum.
